The Vice President and flag bearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has reiterated the need for land digitization following the current trend of land guard challenges in the country.
He has established the need for Ghana to digitalise its lands to avoid the incessant litigation that has claimed many lives merely because of establishing ownership.
His statement comes on the heels of the killing of a military officer at Millennium City, a community near Kasoa in the Central region over land dispute.
Speaking with the Regional House of Chiefs as part of his tour to the Western Region Thursday, May 02, 2024, the NPP flag bearer stated that digitalisation of land ownership will be one of the foremost things he will implement as President.
“I am a believer in how digitalisation can help us and one of the first things I want to complete as President is digitalisation of the lands to make sure that the ownership issues around stool lands, state lands [are all resolved]. So that people don’t have to use land guards and kill people just to establish ownership of land,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
He implored the traditional authority to help in that regard to ensure the numerous land disputes are curtailed.
“We can quickly, with your help, work with you to do digitalisation of our land registry across the country and that will save a lot of disputes,” he pleaded.
