Bullgod: I Spent Five Days in Police Cells Under Nana Akufo-Addo

Ghanaian artiste manager and entertainment pundit Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, popularly known as Bullgod, has alleged that former President Nana Akufo-Addo orchestrated his arrest, leading to his detention in a prison cell.

According to him, speaking on Changes on Joy Prime, he revisited comments he made about the Menzgold saga during a previous television interview. Bullgod said he had stated that the former president needed to ensure victims retrieved their locked-up investments before the end of his tenure, or he would not complete his term.

He alleged that immediately after the interview, a police convoy arrested him and placed him behind bars — a move he believes was carried out on the instructions of former President Nana Akufo-Addo.

“I said he needed to pay the money before he finished his term; if eno be so he no go finish his term; he go run away — and boom, they said I had threatened him. I went to one of the channels, I reach house and wanted to go buy some fufu. So, I was speaking to my PA and then I saw four-wheel drives and boys jumping out with bulletproofs and guns,” he told host Roselyn Felli.

“I spent three days at the BNI cells and was later moved because they couldn’t prosecute me and handed me over to the police. After my interrogation, they ensured I was placed in some of the toughest cells in Accra — where armed robbers, rapists, and killers are kept. I was put in the SWAT cells for two days,” he added.

Bullgod further recounted that the BNI cells were very spacious and that he was held there alone. He said he was too frightened to sleep, believing his detention was politically motivated and fearing that anything could happen during the night, so he stayed awake for three consecutive days.

He also claimed that detainees are not fed by the police, meaning that if no one brings you food, you go hungry. According to him, whenever food was delivered, he and the other inmates shared it among themselves.

However, he noted that his popularity worked in his favour, as he was spared the usual treatment meted out by the leader of the prison cell.
