Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, has announced that he will donate two months of his salary to the Ghana Sports Fund.
He made the declaration in Parliament, where he underscored the urgency of passing the Sports Fund Bill into law. According to him, the Fund has the potential to significantly contribute to Ghana’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and reshape sports financing in the country.
The Minister made the pledge after praising the National Investment Bank for contributing GH¢100,000 to the Fund.
“I will donate two months of my salary to the Ghana Sports Fund, effective February 2026,” Mr. Adams stated.
He emphasised that leadership must set the tone if meaningful change is to be achieved. “If we expect the private sector to invest, if we expect sports federations to reform, and if we expect young athletes to stay committed, then leadership must also demonstrate commitment,” he said.
He further urged his colleagues in Parliament and other government officials to back the initiative. “I respectfully appeal to Members of this House, Ministers of State, and the Executive to support this Fund in practical and measurable ways. Government has already provided the framework,” he added.
The Ghana Sports Fund is aimed at mobilising resources to enhance sports development, improve infrastructure, and promote athlete welfare nationwide.
