Representatives of the Retired Footballers Association of Ghana paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, to advocate for stronger support systems and greater recognition for Ghana’s football legends.
The meeting, held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Ministry’s conference room, was led by the association’s president, James Kuuku Dadzie, along with several distinguished retired footballers who have significantly contributed to Ghana’s football history.

The delegation was welcomed by the Minister and his team, with the Ministry’s Chief Director, Wilhelmina Asamoah, officially receiving them and expressing optimism about future collaboration between the government and former players.
During the discussions, Mr. Dadzie emphasized the importance of stronger partnerships to ensure that retired footballers are given the recognition and welfare support they deserve.
He also reflected on Ghana’s football legacy, highlighting the nation’s Africa Cup of Nations victories in 1963, 1965, 1978, and 1982—milestones that cemented Ghana’s status as a continental powerhouse.
Kofi Adams acknowledged the vital role former players have played in shaping Ghana’s sporting identity and assured the delegation of the government’s commitment to enhancing welfare programs for retired athletes.

He outlined ongoing initiatives aimed at providing post-retirement opportunities, healthcare support, and establishing a dedicated Sports Fund to benefit both active sports development and retired players.
The Minister also announced plans to introduce annual commemorative events to honour past footballers, stressing that their contributions remain central to Ghana’s continued prominence in African football.

“The strength of a family is how well it is connected to the old,” Hon. Kofi Adams remarked, urging the association to collaborate closely with the Ministry to develop sustainable strategies that celebrate the past while inspiring future generations.
The Retired Footballers Association expressed gratitude for the warm reception and reaffirmed its commitment to building a strong, productive partnership with the government.
The delegation included notable former players such as Osei Kofi, Mohammed Polo, Abdul Razak, and George Alhassan, among others.
The visit represents a significant step toward ensuring Ghana’s football legends are properly celebrated and supported, safeguarding their legacy for future generations.
