25,000 Street Lights to Be Installed Across Greater Accra Soon – Titus Glover

The Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council has announced plans to install 25,000 solar-powered street lights throughout the region.

Regional Minister Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover shared this initiative in response to numerous complaints from motorists and residents about poor nighttime visibility on many roads.

During a regional town hall meeting, Mr. Titus Glover highlighted that this project aims to reduce crime by improving visibility, stating, “Because criminals don’t like visibility, the government has supported the region to ensure we light up the entire area with street lights. In phase one, 10,000 streetlights were installed in 2022.

“20,000 were added in 2023, and in phase three, we will install 25,000 more. A company is partnering with the regional coordinating council to pilot a solar-powered lighting project on the Tema Motorway, starting from Shiashie through the Airport to 37 to Accra Central.

“We will then extend the project along the N1 to Weija Gbawe, through Achimota Overhead, the Forestry Commission, Achimota Police Station, GIMPA, and toward Fiesta Royale.”
