Kurt’s Okraku calls for an end to Betting companies involvement in Ghana Premier League Matches.

President Kurt Okraku has announced that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) intends to put an end to betting companies featuring Ghana Premier League matches, as no bookmaker has been authorized to do so. Recently, matches in Ghana’s top league have appeared on betting sites, leading to allegations of match-fixing and bringing the game into disrepute.

During the GFA’s 30th Ordinary Congress, Okraku outlined plans to address these issues, stating that the association’s legal team will engage with betting companies on this matter.

“We have not authorized any betting company to offer odds on our matches. Our legal department will be empowered to tackle this issue directly. It is unacceptable for betting companies to profit from our football,” he said.

“It’s time to reject these companies. However, we are open to partnering in a lawful manner. We invite companies interested in collaboration to approach us directly.”

Under President Okraku’s leadership, the league has been marred by several match-fixing allegations, the most notable involving AshantiGold and Inter Allies during the 2020/21 season.

The new Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to begin on September 6.
