Koforidua, September 3, 2024 – The Eastern Regional Minister, Seth Kwame Acheampong, announced that President Nana Akufo-Addo’s administration has constructed more roads in the Eastern Region than the previous government led by John Dramani Mahama.
Speaking at the Regional Townhall meeting held at the Centre for National Culture in Koforidua on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, Minister Acheampong revealed that over 185 kilometers of roads have been built since 2017. He emphasized that this achievement highlights the current administration’s strong commitment to enhancing infrastructure and improving regional connectivity.
“The Akufo-Addo government has delivered on its promise of infrastructural development. Since 2017, we have completed over 185 kilometers of road construction in the Eastern Region, which surpasses the total road development done under the NDC administration,” Minister Acheampong stated. “Our efforts have not only made transportation easier but have also boosted economic activities by connecting communities that were previously isolated.”
Among the key projects highlighted by Minister Acheampong are:
- Rehabilitation of the Nkawkaw-Noyem-New Abirem roads
- Reconstruction of the Koforidua-Asesewa-Abourso roads
- Partial reconstruction of the Koforidua-Bonsu road
These projects have significantly improved access and connectivity within the region, reducing travel time and facilitating trade and commerce.
Minister Acheampong further outlined the government’s broader vision for infrastructure development, stressing that the focus extends beyond road construction to creating an interconnected network that supports economic growth and overall regional development. He assured that the progress made so far is just the beginning, with plans to deliver even more infrastructure projects in the coming years.
Minister for Information, Fatimatu Abubakar, who oversees the organization of the townhall meetings, highlighted the importance of these events. “These town hall meetings are important because they allow us to bring governance closer to the people,” she explained. “They provide an opportunity for citizens to engage directly with government officials, ask questions, and receive real-time updates on government projects and policies.”
Madam Abubakar emphasized that the townhall meetings help bridge the gap between the government and the people, fostering trust and ensuring that citizens are well-informed about the initiatives undertaken in their regions. “We believe that by promoting open dialogue and sharing information, we can build a stronger relationship between the government and the people. This is crucial for sustaining our democracy and promoting inclusive development,” she added.
The townhall meeting in Koforidua was the second event in the 2024 nationwide series, following a successful launch in the Greater Accra Region. These meetings aim to enhance citizen engagement and promote inclusive governance by providing a platform for government officials to update the public on various projects and receive direct feedback from residents.
The series will continue across the remaining regions, ensuring that every Ghanaian has a voice in the nation’s development process. Community leaders, government officials, and residents attended the Koforidua meeting, expressing eagerness to learn more about the government’s development agenda and to share their concerns.
