Ghana, UAE Deepen Energy Partnership as Mahama Shows Support to Abu Dhabi

President John Dramani Mahama and UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Wednesday agreed to deepen energy cooperation, including proposals for UAE investment in oil and gas storage facilities in Ghana.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the “Make it in the Emirates 2026” summit at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

The two leaders also touched on the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, acknowledging the UAE’s sensitive role in the region. Both expressed hope for a quick resolution to the US-Iran conflict, noting that peace would enable the global community to refocus on sustainable development and innovation.

In addition to fossil fuels, they stressed the need to diversify energy sources, highlighting a shift toward Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and solar power to reduce dependence on crude oil.

They further explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations, with key focus areas including trade, investment, renewable energy, innovation, technology, and artificial intelligence.

The meeting ended with both leaders reaffirming the long-standing ties between Ghana and the UAE. The UAE President described Ghana as a peaceful and stable democracy, emphasizing the strong potential for mutual growth.

Both sides expressed confidence that the renewed partnership would drive meaningful progress in trade, investment, and sustainable energy for the benefit of both countries.
