2026 World Cup setback as Mohammed Kudus suffers new injury

Mohammed Kudus is facing a race against time to be fit for the 2026 FIFA World Cup after suffering yet another injury setback.

The Ghana international had been on the road to recovery following a quad tendon injury sustained earlier in the year while featuring for Tottenham Hotspur.

At the time, interim coach Igor Tudor expressed optimism about Kudus’ progress, indicating that the forward was nearing a return to full training.

“We have these three weeks after the game on Sunday. He will probably rejoin parts of team training about 10 days into the break,” Tudor said. “We still need to assess, but he is progressing very well and has already started light work with the ball.”

However, the situation has since worsened. Kudus has reportedly suffered a relapse, this time involving his hamstring, shortly after resuming individual training.

Medical assessments have confirmed the new setback, with reports suggesting the injury may require surgery. The 25-year-old is now expected to miss the remainder of the season, casting serious doubt over his availability for Ghana’s World Cup campaign in June.

The development is also a significant blow for Tottenham, with newly appointed manager Roberto De Zerbi likely to be without one of his key attacking players as the club battles to maintain its Premier League status.

Prior to the injury, Kudus had recorded nine goal contributions across domestic and European competitions, highlighting his importance to both club and country.
