Akufo-Addo Leads ECOWAS Election Observation Mission in Benin Ahead of Presidential Polls

Nana Akufo-Addo arrived in Cotonou, Benin on Wednesday to commence key stakeholder engagements as Head of the ECOWAS-Cedeao Election Observation Mission ahead of the country’s presidential election scheduled for Sunday, April 12, 2026.

Leading a carefully balanced and multidisciplinary delegation, President Akufo-Addo oversees a team comprising twenty long-term observers, eighty short-term observers, and twenty-five young professionals. The delegation will be deployed across all localities in Benin in line with the provisions of the ECOWAS Additional Protocol on Democracy and Good Governance

.In a statement, Akufo-Addo reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Republic of Benin in conducting a peaceful and credible election that upholds the will of the people. “I remain committed to working alongside the Republic of Benin to ensure a peaceful and credible election that respects the will of the people,” he said.

The mission underscores ECOWAS’ dedication to promoting democratic governance and stability across the region, providing impartial observation and guidance to strengthen electoral processes.
