Bolga: Final-Year Male Students Removed from Campus Over Alleged Demo Plans

All final-year male students of the Bolgatanga Technical Institute (BOTECH) have been directed to vacate the campus following intelligence from the Upper East Regional Security Council (REGSEC) indicating plans of a possible violent disturbance.

The directive was issued by Upper East Regional Minister Donatus Akamugri Atanga during an emergency meeting with students and staff on Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

According to the Minister, the decision was based on credible security reports suggesting that some students were preparing to cause chaos and target key infrastructure on campus.

He explained that the move was a preventive measure aimed at averting a potential crisis, protecting lives, and safeguarding school property.

The Minister expressed concern over recurring unrest at the institute, warning that allowing tensions to escalate could lead to serious consequences, including injuries or loss of life.

He clarified that the directive does not amount to a total closure of the school but specifically targets third-year male students identified in the intelligence reports.

Third-year female students and first-year students have been allowed to remain on campus, while second-year students are already off-campus as part of their academic schedule.

He further warned that failure to comply could affect the students’ academic progression, including their ability to sit for final examinations.

The Minister cautioned that stronger enforcement measures, including the possible deployment of military personnel, would be taken against those who defy the directive.

He urged affected students to cooperate with authorities to help restore calm and allow investigations to proceed, assuring that efforts are underway to identify those behind the planned unrest.
