Ghanaian para-athlete Zinabu Issah has secured the country’s first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after winning silver in the women’s Shot Put F57 final.
Issah produced a season-best effort of 8.65 metres to finish second and earn Team Ghana its first podium success at the Games in Glasgow.
The 31-year-old athlete continues to cement her position among Ghana’s top para-athletes. At the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, she advanced to the women’s Shot Put F57 final after registering 8.67m in qualifying. She later posted a throw of 8.84m to finish ninth overall.
Issah also competed in the women’s Discus F57 event at the Paris Games, where she placed 12th with a best effort of 23.85m.
Her silver medal represents a significant boost for Team Ghana, with athletes still expected to compete in athletics, boxing and swimming as the 2026 Commonwealth Games continue.
