Black Stars Could Lift 2026 World Cup – Kofi Adams

Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, has voiced strong confidence in the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, asserting that the team has the potential to lift the trophy.

Kofi Adams, Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, has expressed confidence in the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting the team could even contend for the trophy.

The four-time African champions enter the tournament as one of the lower-ranked sides, drawn into a tough Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama.

Despite recent challenges, Adams remains optimistic. Speaking to Channel One TV, he acknowledged that preparations are still ongoing, particularly after the departure of former head coach Otto Addo.

“I will say that we are preparing. If I tell you that we are ready…we don’t even have a head coach,” Adams said. “So it means that we are not fully ready yet. But I see us being ready by the time it’s time for us to play our first game – against Panama.”

He added that although the current squad has not spent as much time together as previous generations, it still possesses the quality to compete at the highest level.

“This is a World Cup that I see us doing well. We should be hopeful. We may not have the best of players that we had in some time past, based on them playing together for some time. But we still have what it takes to go very, very far. Maybe possibly even win the World Cup.”

Meanwhile, the Ghana Football Association is expected to appoint a new head coach soon as preparations intensify.

The team will regroup in May for a friendly against Mexico, before concluding warm-up matches against Wales on June 2, 2026.

Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17, followed by matches against England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27, aiming to improve on their group-stage exits in 2014 and 2022.
