Black Stars Appoint Carlos Queiroz as New Head Coach

Ghana has officially named experienced Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars, marking a significant step in the team’s preparations for upcoming international competitions.

The appointment, confirmed by the Ghana Football Association, brings an end to weeks of speculation following the departure of Otto Addo. Queiroz takes over at a crucial time, with the senior national team aiming to rebuild momentum ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

A seasoned manager with vast international experience, Queiroz has previously handled top national teams including Portugal, Iran, Egypt, and Colombia. He also served as assistant coach at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson, further strengthening his credentials at the highest level of the game.

In a statement, the GFA expressed confidence in Queiroz’s ability to guide the Black Stars to success, citing his tactical discipline and track record in international football as key factors behind his appointment.

“The Executive Council believes Carlos Queiroz has the experience and leadership required to steer the Black Stars to greater heights,” the statement read.

Queiroz is expected to assume duties immediately and begin preparations for Ghana’s upcoming international fixtures, including a high-profile friendly against Mexico. His immediate focus will be assessing the current squad and implementing a system capable of competing against top-tier opposition.

Speaking after his appointment, Queiroz expressed enthusiasm about the new role and his desire to work with Ghana’s talented pool of players.

“It is an honour to lead one of Africa’s most respected football nations. Ghana has immense talent and a proud football history. My goal is to build a competitive team that can make the nation proud,” he said.

The Black Stars have endured mixed fortunes in recent years, including early exits at the 2014 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. With the next tournament on the horizon, expectations will be high for Queiroz to restore belief and deliver improved performances on the global stage.

Ghana is set to compete in a challenging group, with fixtures against Panama, England, and Croatia already lined up. The new coach will be tasked with assembling a cohesive squad capable of progressing beyond the group stage.

The appointment of Queiroz signals a new era for the Black Stars, as the team looks to reclaim its status among Africa’s elite and make a strong impression on the world stage.
