Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, on behalf of President John Dramani Mahama, has met with members of Ghana’s diaspora community in Vic, Spain, following her participation in the 4th High-Level Meeting of the Initiative in Defence of Democracy.

She was accompanied by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and Ghana’s Ambassador to Spain, Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe, during the engagement with Ghanaian residents, including traditional leaders, the Ghana Union, and various associations across different provinces.

Delivering warm greetings from President Mahama, the Vice President commended Ghanaians in Spain for their positive representation of the country and reaffirmed government’s commitment to deepening engagement with the diaspora.

She briefed the community on key developments in Ghana, highlighting ongoing efforts to stabilise the economy, reduce inflation, and maintain fiscal discipline. She also outlined government’s broader agenda to transition the country into a value-added, production-driven economy under the Big Push initiative.

In addition, she pointed to priority interventions in agriculture aimed at boosting local production and reducing imports, as well as major social policies such as the No-Fees Stress initiative for first-year tertiary students, the distribution of free sanitary pads for schoolgirls, and expanded access to primary healthcare services.

Other programmes mentioned included the Goldbod initiative, the phased rollout of the 24-hour economy policy, and the establishment of the Women’s Development Bank, all aimed at promoting inclusive growth and national transformation.

Vice President Opoku-Agyemang expressed gratitude for the warm reception and encouraged the diaspora to remain united and actively involved in Ghana’s development, reaffirming government’s commitment to supporting their welfare and strengthening ties with Ghanaians abroad.
