Victory 2028 Talks: Afoko Holds High-Level Meeting with Bawumia, Akufo-Addo, Kufuor

New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman hopeful Paul Afoko has begun a second round of high-level consultations with key figures in the party, including former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, and former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong.

Ahead of the NPP presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, Afoko had also engaged all five aspirants, including Bryan Acheampong, Kwabena Agyepong, and Yaw Osei Adutwum, as part of efforts to promote unity within the party.

Sources close to Afoko indicate that these courtesy calls and stakeholder engagements are part of a broader nationwide consultation ahead of the party’s upcoming National Delegates Conference.

Afoko, who served as NPP National Chairman from 2014 to 2015, is campaigning on a “3R Agenda” — Reunite, Rebuild, and Recapture — aimed at returning the party to power in 2028.

According to his team, the meetings are designed to draw on the experience of senior party members, address concerns, and build consensus following the party’s defeat in the 2024 general election.

A source within his team noted that engaging past leaders is crucial, emphasizing that their experience and insights remain valuable to the party’s rebuilding process.

The meetings with Bawumia and Akufo-Addo are considered particularly significant due to their influence within the party, while the engagement with Kufuor is seen as an effort to strengthen institutional memory and unity.

Afoko is also said to have stressed the need for unity within the party and cautioned against internal blame, while advocating for competence over ethnicity in selecting the next National Chairman.

These consultations follow earlier engagements with the Ashanti Regional Council of Elders and Regional Executives in Kumasi.

Since declaring his intention to contest, Afoko has been undertaking a nationwide outreach campaign to engage party stakeholders and opinion leaders, with insiders suggesting the meetings signal efforts to build support and reconcile factions ahead of the internal contest.
