Benjamin Asare Earns Late Black Stars Call-Up Ahead of Mexico Friendly

Accra Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has received a late call-up to the Ghana national football team squad ahead of their international friendly against Mexico national football team.

The 33-year-old shot-stopper was initially left out of the 23-man squad named by head coach Carlos Queiroz earlier this week. However, he has now been drafted into the team as a replacement for Dreams FC goalkeeper Gidios Aseako.

According to the Ghana Football Association, Asare will join the squad for the friendly scheduled for May 22, 2026, as part of preparations for the upcoming international assignments.

Asare, who has already earned multiple caps for Ghana, made his national team debut in 2025 and has been one of the standout performers in the Ghana Premier League, particularly with Accra Hearts of Oak.

The friendly against Mexico is expected to give Coach Queiroz another opportunity to assess his squad depth as Ghana continues preparations toward the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
