Parliament Confirms Detention of Asante Akyem North MP in Netherlands

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, has reportedly been detained at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam, Netherlands, according to an official statement from Ghana’s Parliament.

In a statement signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Parliament confirmed that the Speaker and leadership of the House are currently engaging Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to gather full details surrounding the incident.

The statement, however, did not disclose the reason behind the detention or whether any formal charges have been filed against the independent MP.

Some international and local reports have linked the development to an alleged financial crime investigation, though Ghana’s Parliament has not officially confirmed those claims.

Parliament says the public will be updated as more verified information becomes available.
