Ghana’s bid for a medal in the men’s 100m final at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championships ended in disappointment, as Abdul-Rasheed Saminu and Joseph Paul Amoah failed to secure podium finishes at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra.
The two sprinters were unable to match the pace of Cameroonian star Emmanuel Eseme, who powered to victory to clinch gold in a fiercely contested final on Wednesday, May 13.
Amoah came closest to a medal, finishing fourth, while Saminu placed sixth in the race.
Both athletes had sparked hope among home supporters after qualifying for the final earlier in the day, but they could not deliver medal-winning performances when it mattered most.
Eseme’s triumph secured top honours for Cameroon in the men’s sprint event.
The African Senior Athletics Championships continue at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, where athletes from across the continent are competing for glory in various track and field events.
