The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has confiscated quantities of smoked fish following the circulation of a viral video that exposed unhygienic fish processing practices in Tema Newtown.
The enforcement exercise was carried out in collaboration with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) and the Ghana Police Service after concerns were raised over unsafe food handling conditions in the area.The operation comes after the Buzstop Boys drew public attention to the situation through a widely shared video showing fish being processed in an environment allegedly surrounded by filth and poor sanitation.
The footage sparked widespread public concern and renewed calls for authorities to take immediate action to protect public health.During the operation, officials confiscated smoked fish believed to have been processed under unsafe conditions and reiterated their commitment to enforcing food safety regulations across the country.
The FDA urged food processors and vendors to adhere strictly to hygiene standards, warning that anyone found violating food safety laws will face the appropriate sanctions. Authorities also assured the public that efforts will continue to ensure food sold for consumption meets the required health and safety standards.
