Tragedy on Peki–Tsame Road: 15 Dead, 25 Injured in Crash

At least 15 people have been confirmed dead after a severe crash on the Peki–Tsame road in the Volta Region.

The accident occurred at about 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, and involved two commercial vehicles carrying a total of 40 passengers. Several other passengers sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at different health facilities.

Personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service responded promptly to the scene and managed to rescue 25 survivors who were trapped in the wreckage. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, while the bodies of the deceased were transported to the morgue.

Speaking on the incident, the Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service, ADO1 Hope Bedzrah, confirmed that initial investigations point to a head-on collision between the two vehicles.

He explained that emergency teams arrived at the scene and immediately began rescue operations to save passengers trapped inside both vehicles.

“When they got there, they realised that the two vehicles had been involved in a head-on collision. Preliminary investigations at the scene suggest that there were 40 occupants in the two vehicles,” he told Citi News.
