Ghana has since engaged South African authorities following the circulation of videos allegedly showing Ghanaian nationals being targeted in xenophobic attacks, prompting swift diplomatic action between Accra and Pretoria.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, confirmed that he held a telephone conversation on Wednesday with his South African counterpart, Ronald Lamola, to address the situation and coordinate an appropriate response.

In a statement shared on social media, Mr Ablakwa explained that the call was triggered by disturbing footage circulating online. He noted that he reached out to his counterpart over the troubling reports of Ghanaians facing xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
He added that the South African government had responded with concern and assured that immediate steps would be taken. According to him, the South African Foreign Minister expressed empathy for the victims and pledged full-scale investigations into the incidents.
As part of ongoing efforts, authorities in Pretoria are expected to brief African diplomatic missions, a move aimed at providing clarity and addressing concerns raised by affected countries across the continent.
