President John Dramani Mahama has assured motorists using the busy Kasoa–Winneba highway of imminent relief as rehabilitation works on the corridor continue to make steady progress under the government’s infrastructure agenda.
During an inspection tour of the project, the President expressed satisfaction with both the pace and quality of work. He revealed that portions of the newly paved road will be opened to traffic within the next month to help ease congestion, while full completion is expected by December, or at the latest, the first quarter of next year.
“I understand the frustrations faced by commuters, but help is on the way. The contractor is doing good work, and we are closely monitoring progress to ensure timely delivery,” President Mahama stated.
The Kasoa–Winneba road project forms part of the government’s broader “Big Push” initiative, a strategic programme aimed at modernising key transport corridors across the country. The initiative seeks to enhance connectivity, reduce travel time, and stimulate economic activity along major routes.
Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, attributed the steady progress to the President’s directive that no inherited infrastructure project should be abandoned. He stressed that the government remains committed to continuity and timely delivery of ongoing works.
According to the Minister, more than GH₵12 billion has been released to road contractors since 2025, significantly accelerating project execution nationwide and restoring momentum to previously stalled road networks.
The Kasoa–Winneba corridor is a critical stretch linking Accra to the Central and Western regions, and its rehabilitation is expected to bring significant relief to thousands of daily commuters and businesses that depend on the route.
