The Government of Ghana has received another group of Ghanaian nationals evacuated from South Africa under its voluntary repatriation programme following renewed xenophobic attacks targeting foreign nationals in parts of the country.
The returnees arrived safely in Ghana after opting to leave South Africa as concerns over their safety intensified due to recent outbreaks of violence directed at migrants.Government officials welcomed the evacuees upon arrival and assured them of the state’s commitment to supporting their reintegration.
Authorities reiterated that the voluntary repatriation exercise forms part of ongoing efforts to protect the welfare of Ghanaian citizens living abroad during times of crisis.The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working closely with Ghana’s High Commission in Pretoria and other relevant agencies, continues to monitor the situation in South Africa while providing assistance to Ghanaians who wish to return home.
Government has also urged Ghanaians still residing in South Africa to remain in contact with Ghana’s diplomatic mission and adhere to all safety advisories as efforts continue to ensure their well-being.The latest evacuation underscores Ghana’s commitment to safeguarding its citizens overseas amid growing concerns over recurring xenophobic violence in South Africa.
