The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has officially inaugurated the GNFSST 1-26 Fire Police Train the Trainer Course at the Fire Academy and Training School in Jamestown, as part of efforts to strengthen its operational capacity and professionalism.
The opening ceremony, held on the morning of April 22, was attended by senior officers of the Service, officials from the Ghana Armed Forces Military Police Unit, instructors, participants, and invited guests.
Chief Fire Officer Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sapong, who served as Guest of Honour, officially declared the course open. She reaffirmed management’s commitment to repositioning the Fire Police Unit into a more robust and effective arm of the Service.

In her address, she underscored the increasing need to equip Fire Police personnel with modern skills in security, discipline, and protection. According to her, enhancing these capabilities will better enable them to support firefighters at emergency scenes while maintaining order within the Service.
She noted that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to promote professionalism, discipline, and safety across the GNFS.
Also addressing the gathering, the Commanding Officer of the Ghana Military Police, Jacqueline Dela Galley, commended the growing collaboration between the two institutions. She highlighted that the partnership would help build the capacity of Fire Service personnel in critical areas such as basic policing, intelligence gathering, VIP protection, report writing, and professional conduct.

Participants in the programme are expected to undergo intensive training over a three-week period under the guidance of instructors from the Military Police.
The course is designed to prepare selected personnel to serve as trainers within their respective regions and commands, while also enhancing the overall readiness and effectiveness of the Fire Police Unit.

The ceremony concluded with a renewed commitment from both institutions to deepen cooperation and promote discipline, security, and operational excellence within Ghana’s emergency services.
