Ghana is preparing to host the President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa, for a three-day state visit from Wednesday, April 1 to Friday, April 3, 2026, as both countries aim to strengthen bilateral relations.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency on Tuesday, March 31, the Zimbabwean leader will arrive at the Accra International Airport, where he will be received by President John Dramani Mahama with full military honours.

The welcome ceremony will feature an inspection of a Guard of Honour mounted by the Ghana Armed Forces, along with a 21-gun salute.

Later in the evening, President Mahama will host a state banquet in honour of his guest, highlighting the enduring friendship between Ghana and Zimbabwe.

A major highlight of the visit will be bilateral discussions at Peduase Lodge, beginning with a private meeting between the two leaders. Talks are expected to focus on enhancing cooperation in key areas such as trade, tourism, health, sanitation, agriculture, anti-corruption efforts, and job creation.

The visit will also see the signing and exchange of Memoranda of Understanding in areas of mutual interest, signalling a renewed commitment to deeper collaboration between the two nations.

As part of his itinerary, President Mnangagwa will tour key institutions, including the Sweden Ghana Medical Centre to learn about advancements in healthcare delivery, as well as the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant, noted for its innovations in waste management.

In a symbolic gesture, he will visit the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park to lay a wreath at the tomb of Ghana’s founding president, Kwame Nkrumah, in honour of his legacy.

President Mnangagwa is expected to depart Ghana on Friday, April 3, with full honours at the Jubilee Lounge, marking the end of the visit.

The trip is expected to further strengthen diplomatic ties between Accra and Harare while opening new avenues for cooperation.

The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
